LITELOK X1 Saves E-Bike in Australia #127

At around 5am on the 9th of May, bike thieves entered the gated basement car park of Victor’s apartment building in Melbourne, Australia. Their target was a freshly built custom titanium e-bike worth $14,000, a bike Victor had owned for just two weeks.

What the thieves didn’t expect was the LITELOK X1.

Victor had owned his X1 for a couple of years, but until now, he had never truly needed to put it to the test.

“Broke theft's angle grinder -
I have owned the X1 for a couple of years now. I guess the only way to know it is worth your money is for it to go through real life test. Some bike thieves attempted to cut through my X1 but did not succeed.”

The thieves attacked the lock with an angle grinder, the tool of choice for organised bike thefts. But instead of slicing through the X1, the grinder discs themselves were destroyed.

That’s exactly what the X range was designed to do: redirect the energy and friction back into the cutting disc, wearing it down before the lock can be breached.

When Victor inspected the scene later that morning, the evidence was still there.

“There was a shattered piece of the grinder disc on the ground. It was a custom-built Titanium ebike that I only owned for a few weeks, and I can't imagine how devastated I would be if it was not for the X1! I am going to get another one to beef up my bike security even more!”

For riders who build custom bikes, the value goes far beyond the price tag. These bikes represent time, passion, craftsmanship, and individuality.

Victor’s bike was no ordinary e-bike.

“The incident took place just over this weekend, 9th of May Saturday morning, around 5-6am.
-the target bike was a freshly built custom Titanium ebike, which costed me 14k! I have only ridden it for about 2 weeks.”

One detail in Victor’s story is becoming increasingly common: the theft attempt happened inside a gated apartment garage with CCTV coverage.

Unfortunately, security gates and cameras alone are no longer enough to deter determined thieves.

“The bike was locked to a bike rack in a gated basement car park of my apartment, next to the lift foyer, in sight of a CCTV camera. X1 was used to lock the frame and the rear wheel to the rack, and an Abus Bordo Centium was also used to lock the front wheel to the rack. The thief tried to cut both locks but failed in both instances.”

Victor’s setup highlights an important lesson in bike security: layered protection matters.

Using multiple locks can significantly increase the time, noise, and effort required for a theft attempt. Pairing a secondary lock with at least one Diamond-rated lock like the LITELOK X1 gives riders a far stronger defence against attacks.

Although the thieves failed to steal the titanium e-bike, the break-in still caused damage elsewhere.

“I only found out about the incident late morning when notified by a kind neighbour. My storage cage was broke into and another road bike stolen along with other valuables, so it brings me a bit of comfort that the thieves attempt at that titanium bike was thwarted.”

Even in a difficult situation, the fact that the X1 protected the bike Victor cared most about brought some relief.

“There was a scrap of what appears to be a flexible grinding disc found on the ground, suggesting to me that they broke their grinding disc in the attempt.”

Stories like Victor’s are a reminder that bike security is no longer theoretical. Angle grinder attacks are happening in apartment garages, public spaces, and supposedly secure locations across the world.

The LITELOK X1 was built for these exact moments, when security needs to hold up under real pressure, against real tools, used by determined thieves.

For Victor, that protection made all the difference.
