LITELOK X1 MOTO

After seeing lots of video reviews and testimonials of people's experiences of this Litelok, I decided to buy one for my European bike trip. I have always used a chain on my BMW 1250GSA when at home in the garage but now I use Litelok as my primary security lock and am very happy with it.

A suggestion to include a lock reminder cable so you don't drive away with the lock on the wheel!

Hi I’m using the X1 moto lock on my travels in Europe,at the moment I’m parked on a campsite near Aigues Morte south of France.

Better to be safe than sorry, I use the x1moto lock as it is light and portable and quick to use.

I had the opportunity to test the Litelok X1 Armour u-lock clasp in a unique Camo painting, which I really liked. I use this clasp every day with my Specialized Turbo Vado e-bike and I would like to share some insights about its ergonomics, safety and everyday use.

Construction and Safety

The clasp gives the impression of being extremely solid. Although it is noticeably heavy, its weight is not exaggerated and does not drastically hinder transportation. The design of the bolt is based on two locking pins, which significantly increases the level of safety. Even in the event that a potential thief manages to cut one side of the headband, the clasp still remains locked and cannot be easily twisted or opened. Although I myself did not test an angle grinder on it, materials and reviews on the network confirm that it is extremely resistant equipment.

Practice of use and fastening

The X1 model in this version is relatively short, which carries with it some limitations. The space inside the headband is small enough that connecting the bicycle frame to the elements of urban infrastructure can be a challenge.

In most cases, the most convenient and optimal solution that I use is to transfer the u-lock through the rear wheel, inside the rear triangle of the frame. The clasp fits perfectly in this space. Of course, in theory someone could throw such a secured bike in a van, but for my needs — when I leave the bike under the store literally for a few minutes — it is quite enough security and gives great psychological comfort.

Mounting Bracket (Frame Bracket)

I carry the clasp in the original Litelok handle mounted on the frame. The very process of removing and inserting the u-lock is simple, although it requires the use of a key (we need to twist the lock to release the lock).

My main complaint is the stability of this solution. When the fastener is inserted into the handle, a small clearance (gap) appears in the lower part. As a result, the u-lock can gently work sideways when driving. In my opinion, the manufacturer could have refined this element better so that the clasp sits in the frame more rigid and stable.

summary

The Litelok X1 Armour is an uncompromising protection that works great during quick stops under the store. Despite the small minus associated with the clearance in the mounting bracket and the limited space of the headband itself, the solidity of the workmanship and the double locking of the lock make me feel calm about my bike.

Advantages:

Armored, very solid construction.

Double locking (two pins) for increased resistance to straining.

Great look of the Camo version.

Disadvantages:

The headband could be a little longer (it is difficult to pin the bike to a thicker pole).

Slight backlash and lack of perfect stability in the original frame mount.

Very easy to use but it would be even better if it was slightly wider.

This is my second Litelok X1 - first one I bought for my racing bike, and given my good experience with it, I decided to buy another one for my e-bike. I live in London and initially was very nervous every time I parked my e-bike on the street while running errands. Now I feel confident to leave it outside for a few hours, which makes such a difference. Highly recommend.

The Litelok is a well made bit of kit and I’m sure is a visual deterrent to would be thieves. Hopefully never have to test the theory but it is reassuring to have it on when leaving the bike in public places and unattended at home. Comes in a good quality carry sleeve for storage when out and about, probably going for an XL version for the back.

A 12 day tour from Sheffield through France into Spain via the Pyrenees and back to the south of France via Andorra. Then up France into Belgium then back to England via the chunnel.. due to the scary stories of gangs stealing bmw gs s I purchase the litelok x1. So easy to use im planning on a second. Hi, the internal dimensions are a bit tight, so I am considering switching to the X1 Plus. The rubber cover intended to protect the keyhole is loose and therefore gets lost easily. Aside from that, it makes a very solid impression. I would recommend the X1.
