E-bike theft is on the rise, and sometimes it hits closer to home than we expect. Gareth recently shared their experience of multiple attempted thefts, and how the LITELOK X1 helped save his bike.

"I didn’t really take a log of the exact date/time but it was before Christmas; basically we had two attacks in a short space of time outside our house where we lock the bikes. In one attack I’d locked my Radwagon (aprox $1500 when I bought it 2016 but I think they are more now) to our PlantLock by FrontYard company using the Abus Granit D-lock. In the night someone angle ground through one half of the shank and was 95% of the way through the other half when our neighbour heard them in the middle of the night and she shouted at them through the window and they ran off, but it was a really close call."

Not all D-locks are created equal; make sure you check the security ratings. Even high-end locks can be vulnerable to determined thieves if they don’t meet the right standards.

"I then swapped the lock to the Litelok I was using on another bike, and it looks like they tried a similar attack but didn’t get further than the rubber sheath. I’m not sure when this happened as I didn’t notice the cut in the sheath for a while. I reckon a couple of weeks after the first attack around Christmas."

This is the key moment: the same thieves tried a similar attack on a bike secured with LITELOK, and failed completely.

"I also have a ground anchor D-ring (also Abus) that I use a motorbike chain to lock my bike with but I sometimes forget this and just use the D-lock to the planter; that’s when the attacks have happened. It’s really nice to know that you can just use the Litelok and not always have to worry about both the chain and the D-lock as the chain is very heavy and a bit of a pain to use each time."

Security is only effective if it’s convenient. LITELOK combines top-level strength with easy everyday use, so riders don’t have to wrestle with heavy chains.

"We’ve also had the e-bike battery stolen once and attached another time (before another kindly neighbour intervened!). Would love it if you could develop an E-bike battery! Then I could leave the battery not he bike rather than having to remove it each time."

We recommend using a multi-layered locking approach in urban environments and ensuring you have at least one angle-grinder-resistant lock. LITELOK is designed to be that reliable, strong lock that gives you peace of mind, whether at home or out on the street.
