At the beginning of February, Carlie reached out to us from Newcastle, Australia to share her experience with an attempted e-bike theft, and how her LITELOK X3 stood up to the test.
Newcastle, like many cities around the world, has seen a sharp rise in bike and e-bike theft. With high-value e-bikes becoming more common, they’ve also become a prime target for thieves equipped with increasingly aggressive tools.
"Hey, I'm Carlie and I'm from Newcastle, Australia and this is my e-bike. It's a very expensive e-bike, 4500 dollars. So, I really wanted to make sure I could, secure it and have no chance of it being stolen. In our city here in Newcastle, we're often having these bikes stolen. So, it was really important that I could, keep it secure."
Investing $4,500 into an e-bike is a big decision. For many riders, it’s not just a bike, it’s daily transport, freedom, fitness, and independence rolled into one. Protecting that investment isn’t optional; it’s essential.

That’s why Carlie chose the LITELOK X3.
The LITELOK X range, including the X1 and the X3 is engineered specifically to resist the most common and destructive theft method used today: angle grinder attacks. Traditional D-locks and chains can often be defeated in seconds. The X range is different.
"So, I bought the LITELOK X3. It's an amazing lock. I've had somebody try to steal it, and they were unsuccessful. You can see, how they've tried to hack at it with an angle grinder or something similar. Twice. And they were unsuccessful. And now this bike was locked up in an apartment carpark, so it wasn't out in public somewhere."
This detail is important.
The attempted theft didn’t happen on a busy street corner. It happened in an apartment car park, a space where a thief likely felt more shielded from interruption. These semi-private locations are increasingly targeted because they provide time and cover.

And time is exactly what angle grinder thieves rely on.
But despite what appears to be two separate cutting attempts, the LITELOK X3 held firm. The visible damage showed clear signs of an angle grinder attack, yet the lock held strong and the bike stayed exactly where Carlie left it.
The LITELOK X3 is engineered to dramatically increase the difficulty, time, and effort required to steal a bike. In real terms, that means:
· More noise
· More sparks
· More attention drawn
· Greater risk for the thief
· A higher chance they give up
And in this case, that’s exactly what happened.
"This thief would have had a real decent amount of time, probably to be hacking at this. And yeah, they still couldn't get through it. So amazing lock. I highly, highly recommend it."
For high-value e-bike owners, especially in areas experiencing frequent theft, that extra layer of protection can mean the difference between loss and peace of mind.

Carlie made the decision to invest in security upfront. When tested in a real-world attack, that decision paid off.
And her e-bike is still hers today.
