" Attempt one.
Someone attempted to steal the bike from my apartment building bike garage in inner city Melbourne, Australia. Attempted Theft was around the 30 June, probably overnight.
Bike and accessories are worth about $AUD7000. Bike was locked up to a bike hoop inside a secure parking garage (steel doors with swipe access control and cameras). Summary is that someone jimmied their way through the garage door and attempted to steal my bike and another eBike but were unsuccessful with both. They took an unlocked bike which was recovered by police.
Attempt two.
Someone tried to steal the bike from the bicycle hoop outside my office on 1st September. Needed to work late to meet a deadline and forgot to bring the bike inside as it got late.
When I went to unlock the bike at about 1am, I noticed the panniers had been removed and a cut mark to the lock. They took some low value bike maintenance items from the panniers."
We're increasingly hearing about bike thieves who target workplaces and even follow cyclists to learn their daily routines. While secure garages offer added protection and shelter, it's still essential to use a high-quality bike lock to keep your bike safe.
